Our Legacy

In 1877, Quaker Oats registered as the first trademark for a breakfast cereal. The trademark was registered with the U.S. Patent Office as “a figure of a man in “Quaker garb.” Previous owners, Henry Seymour and William Heston, have both claimed to have selected the Quaker name as a symbol of good quality and honest value.

It wasn’t until 1946 that the familiar, smiling head portrait of the Quaker man was introduced as the new trademark for Quaker Oats. Twenty years later, Instant Quaker Oatmeal was introduced, sparking the trend of creating new and flavorful products using wholesome Quaker Oats.

In 1981 Quaker Chewy® became the latest product line for the Quaker Oats brand. With the introduction of “chewy” granola bars, Quaker Oats had adapted its products to cater to the fast-paced lives of American families. The combination of chewy texture, yummy ingredients, and convenience made Quaker Chewy Granola Bars a hit with both kids and parents.

Over the last few decades, the Quaker Snack Bars lineup has expanded from granola bars to a variety of baked and granola snacks in flavors and textures to satisfy the snacking urge around the clock. As the flavors and textures have changed over the years, the wholesomeness and great taste of Quaker Oats remains the same.
